Crip Stories is now open until 21 September at Kasteelpark de Lovie curated by Belgian arts organisation Wit.h vzw
Nancy Clayton exhibits three large-scale paintings: Attached, Reaching Out, and Stillness in the central Kasteel building alongside works by thirty artists spanning film, sound, performance and painting occupying the castle building, chapel, lake and grounds of the park.
‘Art can change society, if you’ve got a good imagination then art can be powerful. In your imagination and in society. I think we’ve still got a long way to go but I can see us being included more as human beings and artists. For me it’s about working with the right people who enjoy your work and breaking boundaries together.’ (Nancy Clayton)
‘Crip Stories is more than just an exhibition. It sparks something, urging you to see differently. Here, ‘Crip’ becomes a source of renewed value and meaning. Crip is more than a word, it is a movement. It is not a label, but an attitude. To be crip is to question boxes and boundaries – to include rather than exclude.’ (Exhibition text)
