Intoart Proudly Announce a New Programme

Artists Direct Change
‘An equal platform for emerging visual artists’
Intoart / 20 years / 2020

Intoart will be 20 years old in 2020
By 2020 we want to share our successes but also question why there remain so many barriers to inclusion for people with learning disabilities in contemporary art programmes and discourses.

In February 2019 Intoart are launching Artists Direct Change, a new programme focused on artists with bodies of work developed over many years practising as artists in the Intoart studio.

The Artist Direct Change programme will show how by investing in artists we can address low expectations, othering and cultural exclusion. We will challenge the presumptive use of the term ‘Outsider’ in relation to people with learning disabilities, learn from, and contribute to contemporary discourses.

The Artists Direct Change (ADC) programme of activity will open up opportunities for individual artistic development and progression routes for people with learning disabilities practising as artists. ADC is Intoart’s first ever professional development programme.

Subscribe to the ADC mailing list to keep track of the programme.

“For nearly 20 years, Intoart has been doing incredible work supporting people with learning disabilities, supporting them to operate successfully as practicing artists while challenging society’s perceptions about disability. The Artists Direct Change project is a major new initiative that will significantly increase the visibility and viability of some of these artists. I am proud to be associated with this work and to support Intoart.” Kirsty Ogg, Director, New Contemporaries

“Intoart’s ambition is to create an equal platform for these important emerging voices in the visual arts. It is an exciting time to join this conversation and support the Intoart team as they approach this important milestone”.  Eliza Gluckman Senior Curator & Deputy Director, Government Art Collection
