Biography

Philomena Powell’s work captures the light and detail in landscapes and natural forms. Her work is inspired by research visits where she photographs and collects objects that feature in her drawings made back in the studio. She pays particular attention to the detail of groups of objects found in her landscapes, this is particularly evident in her series of drawings of stones collected from Brighton Beach, flowers from Kew Gardens, precious stones from vitrines in the Natural History Museum and Ironwork from the V&A collection.
